To Boldly Go: the best Sci-fi releases of 2026

Science Fiction in gaming, and in general, has long inspired the minds of many longing to reach beyond the confines of their crushing… ahem, wonderful reality.

We could talk at length about the history of sci-fi as a genre but to keep this article relatively short, it began for gaming in 1962 with the first known digital video game - Spacewar! Not to be confused with Star Wars or Space Invaders, which both came out more than a decade later. In the last sixty-ish years there have been so many notable sci-fi titles in gaming that you start to wonder how any title can beat the feeling of playing Halo: CE for the first time…

So, without further ado, strap yourself into your space suit for the best sci-fi games of 2026:

DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH

Before we hear any um, actually’s — technically this came out last year on PlayStation 5 but was released on Steam for PC in March 2026. Set eleven months after the original, the sequel follows Sam and his famous mates on an epic new fetch-quest-journey to save humanity from extinction. With 95% positive reviews on Steam, players are loving this sequel as much as the original.

Subnautica 2

Another sequel but an impressive one, as Subnautica 2 outperformed its predecessor by orders of magnitude, reaching 5 million sales in the first 22 days of launching early access. A figure which took the original over 2 years to achieve. And yes, this game falls under sci-fi because it’s set underwater on an alien planet. Moving on!

PRAGMATA

We’ve raved about Pragmata before, but we’re gonna do it again. Considered to be a top contender for Game of the Year, the unique sci-fi action adventure dad-simulator game from Capcom is one of those games that even if it’s not the GOTY, it’ll be your GOTY.

Marathon

The newest first person shooter from the creators of Halo and Destiny, Marathon delivers some of the cleanest, most drool worthy sci-fi UX and art of any new title… if you can make it past the tutorial and enjoy fast-paced, super challenging PvP — then you’ll love this extraction shooter.

Angels Fall First

Affectionately likened to Star Wars Battlefront II, Angels Fall First is an indie team-oriented FPS combined with tactical space wargames. AFF is a true labor of love, released after an astonishing 10 years in development. Players will enjoy seamless online and offline gameplay, and fighting in space!

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown

We couldn’t mention sci-fi without mentioning Star Trek at some point, and you’re in luck: Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown dropped in Feb 2026 selling 100k copies within 4 days of release, making it Daedalic Entertainment’s highest selling game of their 20 year publishing career. There’s a mixed bag of reviews but ultimately fans of the long running sci-fi franchise are saying it’s well worth the money.

STAR WARS Zero Company

Set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, Star Wars Zero Company follows Hawks and an elite squad as they are recruited for an operation of the highest stakes. This might be the greatest turn-based strategy game of the year as it delivers high replayability and personalisation of playthrough as it follows along the main cinematic story. A must-have for the Star Wars and turn-based tactic fans alike.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

In case you somehow missed it: the remake of the original Halo is now available on Steam. Touted as a faithful remaster of the original remade with high def visuals and cinematics, refined level design and three new missions. Another one with a mixed bag of reviews, as with any large fanbase of a classic game — it’s challenging to meet all the expectations while still delivering a great game. A lot of the charm of the original Halo were the meme-able, janky or goofy moments that had fans talking about for years, it’s hard to remake that.

So that’s it, our best sci-fi games of 2026 that have us reaching for the stars. Let us know if you think we missed any!

Signing off with a quote from Star Trek that still rings true, even in gaming:

"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life." — Jean-Luc Picard (The Next Generation)
